Tenerife

Trying to escape from the cold and rainy Paris in November, we were searching a place reacheable by plane and not very far, as we had only one week for this escapade.
And like previous years, we have special occasions to celebrate- the anniversaries of our son and my husband!
Canaries aren’t completely new for us, as we have visited Fuerteventura in 2015, but we could not even dream of such an extraordinary climate and landscapes as in Tenerife. Practically, the temperatures vary so little during the year, allowing to enjoy a 22degreee in water and 24-25 degree on air, at the beginning of November😀 We actually used sun screen protection!
Tenerife is the biggest of  the seven Canary islands, which are Spanish territories on the west coast of Africa, only 100 km away from Morocco, in the Atlantic ocean. They are the southest European teritory.
For getting there, you should be aware that Tenerife has two airports( one in South and one in North), both served in general by low cost flights such are Iberia airlines, Easy Jet, Thomas Cook, etc.
It is advisable to rent a car if you want to explore the island, the roads are very good and safe, as long as you avoid going from north to south using the road that goes straight through the Teide mountain😀.Better follow the costal line and it will take 1-1,5 hours to arrive from North to South.

For off season holidays such as in November, is better to choose the South of Tenerrife, where is slightly warm and less rainy, and also plenty of yellow sand beaches along the Adeje Coast.
By far the most popular  beach is Playa de las Americas, that we not enjoyed so much as is full of rocks and difficult entrance into the sea.
We prefered Playa de los Cristianos and Playa de las Vistas, close to each other, for the quality of the yellow sand and beautiful coast full of restaurants and
shops.
If you have several days and like to explore, try also Playa de Camison, sorrounded by palm trees.
In the Northen part of the island you can visit Playa de las Teresitas- ( sandy beach) near Santa Cruz de Tenerife( the capital of the island). It’s very calm and less crowded than southen beaches.
Tenerife is also famous for  black sand beaches such is Playa de las Gaviotas( near Teresitas) and Playa de los Gigantes (in South).

Despite being situated in the middle of Atlantic Ocean, the sea is peaceful and the tides barely noticeable, totally opposite from what we have experienced in Arcachon, for instance.
As a general rule, weather challenges quickly, from sunny to cloudy, from rainy in the North to perfect weather in South or viceversa, so if in your part of the island is bad weather, just take the car and go somewhere else where is sunny!

Despite being a voulcanic island( like all Canaries), Tenerife is rather green and luxuriant, being
dominated by the impressive La Teide- the highest mountain peak in Spain (3.718m). The vulcano errupts from time to time, last one being on 1909.

You can also visit La Teide National Park by car, following the abrupt road that separates the island in two, by bike or by cable car. This is a protected natural area and a  UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We have experinced for the first time in life a submarine trip, from Marina de Santa Miguel, a wonderful one hour experince at 30 m under the water, accompanied all the way by shoals of fish in different colours😀.
We still have a lots more to explore for the next trip, such are a boat trip for dolphin watch, Siam Park, riding the camels...so we will come back soon!
